Eagle Ford Play Map
Horizontal Production by Landing Bench
Summary
The graphic above presents all Eagle Ford Play horizontals completed since 2008. The Eagle Ford Play resides exclusively in Southern Texas. Towards the North, the play is shallow and oily. Moving south the play deepens dramatically and becomes gassy. While the Eagle Ford Shale is the primary target zone in this play, the Austin Chalk is also a popular target in some areas.
Eagle Ford – Commonly divided into the Upper and Lower Eagle Ford, the Lower Eagle Ford is the primary source rock for the play and the most common target zone for horizontal development.
Austin Chalk – Located directly above the Eagle Ford, the Austin Chalk has been a known producer of oil and gas since the 1920s and has seen some development in recent years, most notably in Karnes county.
Other – Since 2008, horizontals completed outside of the Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk have been relatively limited. However, these “other” horizontals have commonly targeted the Edwards, Georgetown, Tuscaloosa, and Pearsall formations.
For additional details regarding development within these formations, please refer to the additional Play Maps included on the Eagle Ford Play Overview page.
