Brian Moore, P.G.

Chief Geoscientist

Brian Moore joined VSO Petroleum Consultants in 2023 and provides geological consulting services to clients. Brian has broad geoscience experience in both conventional and unconventional resource plays. He has been directly involved in exploration, development, and operations across multiple Lower 48 basins and Gulf of Mexico.

Representative Experience/Projects:

  • Field Operations – Extensive experience providing geologic support for drilling, completions, and production operations with operators throughout the Permian, Gulf Coast, and Ark-La-Tex regions. Performed pre-drill due diligence, drilling hazard identification, generated geo prognosis, well design support, and horizontal well targeting which included directional planning recommendations. Provided geo steering and directional guidance, third party vendor coordination, subsurface data collection, end of well reviews, and completion planning guidance for vertical and horizontal drilling programs.
  • Field Development Planning – Guided new drill location selection, drill pad planning, regulatory, well layout, drill order, and rig scheduling for multi-rig drilling programs at public and private operators. Prioritized and maximized the value of each new drill location by collaborating with cross-functional teams which included regulatory, land, subsurface, drilling, completions, production, facilities, and midstream stakeholders.
  • Asset Evaluation – Provided geologic analysis for numerous oil and gas asset evaluations from exploration through abandonment. Typical workflow includes subsurface characterization with cross sections, core analysis (including lithology, porosity, water saturation and total organic carbon), core based petrophysics, identification of horizontal well landing zones, subsurface mapping of structure and key reservoir attributes, integrating with well-test results, fluid properties, and production data. Performed evaluations to quantify resource potential, drilling inventory reserve classification, and geologic framing of type curve areas.
  • Multi-scale Subsurface Analysis – Refined and built fit-for-purpose workflows to quantify reservoir properties for project specific evaluations from production trend analysis to behind-pipe field studies. Analysis typically included integrating mud log, core, log, petrophysical, geochemical, pressure, seismic, well-test, fluid property, and production data.
  • Subsurface Database Management – Gathered, catalogued, and provided quality control for a wide range of subsurface data sets. Facilitated and executed multiple well data trades and provided summaries of the data with actionable intelligence. Built and maintained numerous Kingdom and Petra projects across the lower 48 and Gulf of Mexico.

Summary of Experience and Affiliations:

Prior to joining VSO, Brian Moore served as Vice President of Geosciences for Percussion Petroleum II, LLC., where he conducted hands-on geologic evaluations during the acquisition evaluation phase of the company and guided development planning and geologic operations during Percussion’s asset development phase in the Delaware Basin. Prior to joining Percussion, Brian served in both management and technical roles in both conventional and unconventional exploration, development, and operations in all major Permian Basin provinces, Ark-La-Tex, Gulf Coast Eagle Ford and Austin Chalk, Gulf of Mexico, Anadarko Basin, Powder River, and Williston for Sabine Oil and Gas, Breitburn Energy Partners, Quantum Resources, and Devon Energy. Brian is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with B.S. (2003) and M.S. (2005) Degrees in Geology. He is a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologist (AAPG) and the Houston Geological Society (HGS).
